National Tree Day

As part of National Tree Day, our Grade 6 and foundation students had the opportunity to plant trees around our school with their buddies. Students from other grades also assisted these students. It was a very good learning experience for all, as they were actively working on beautifying our environment and school, while learning the importance of planting trees.

Isra & Rawan, 3B: It was such a delightful experience to plant something at our school. We had fun!

Mahmoud, Ahmed & Haris, 3B: It was a nice thing to do, planting is actually interesting!

Salima Hassan, 4A: I like the part when we spilled the dirt on the plant and I liked it when we had to grab it with our bare hands.

Aayah Hawli, 4A: I liked planting because we could learn how to plant a tree and we got to put the soil in the hole, which was really fun.

Yusuf Farooq, 4A: I liked planting, because it was fun planting the tree and putting the soil in. I also liked it because it was messy.

Abdullahi, 4A: What I liked about planting was when we were putting the soil in because it was really fun.

Coordinator’s Message

Sebnem Golbasi

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to another term. We have made a great start to Term 3 with a lot of great activities happening around the school and we will update you on these events. I would like to thank all of my colleagues for their dedication in creating a great learning environment for our students; and our parents for their continuing support and contribution in their children’s learning.

Before I begin to update you on the upcoming events, I would like to highlight some of the great programs that we run during term 2. IFLC was celebrated across all campuses with visits of students and with participation to the program. This year IFLC was extra special due to the celebration our 20 years in education as Sirius College.

During ramadan our campus had a very busy schedule by organising Iftar dinners for our parents and wider community. Our students also joined to the various excursions and created wonderful projects. Our Year 10s finished the final week of exams and Years 7-9 students engaged in a new pilot program called ‘Alternative Days’, where they learned new life skills that they will need in the future.

Key dates for Semester Two are as follows:

VCE information session for parents 2nd of August (Requires booking)
Literacy week Week 5
Character parade Week 5 Friday
Teacher v student debate will run on Tuesday Week 5.
Numeracy Week Activities 29&31/8 – Mathematics competition
World of Maths (F-8) 8&9th of August
Professor Maths (F-7) 20th of September
Speech and Exhibition Night Term 4 Week 2 Friday
Year 10 Farewell 1st of December

Reminder for students

During Term 3, a blazer is compulsory.

Students are expected to wear their full uniform to excursions and formal school events.

I would like to conclude this message in congratulating Reuban Beulch and Noor Eldib for winning the Vegie Patch Competition.

I wish all students a successful and productive term. Hope to meet with you in next issue.

Regards,
